A candlelight vigil and memorial service will be held to remember the 23 cockle pickers who lost their lives in Morecambe Bay 20 years ago.
Lancaster City Council has organised the service to pay respects to the people from China who died in the Morecambe Bay cockling tragedy on February 5 2004.
The service will mark the 20th anniversary and will be held at the cocklers' memorial close to RNLI Lifeboat Station on Morecambe Promenade, starting at 6pm on Monday, February 5.
Councillor Roger Dennison, mayor of Lancaster, is inviting members of the public wanting to pay their respects to bring along candles and lanterns.
Candles will also be available at the memorial from 5.45pm. The service will be led by the Bishop of Blackburn, Rt Revd Philip North.
The victims were drowned after being trapped by incoming tides while pickling cockles off the shore at Bolton-le-Sands.
Another memorial service, separately organised, is taking place during the afternoon. Details below:
Morecambe music charity, More Music, will also hold events that weekend to commemorate the anniversary.
