Sunak: "I will be very happy to meet and discuss ambitions for this project."
During questions following the spending review this week David Morris MP welcomed the Chancellor’s new ‘Levelling up’ fund and asked him to meet with him to progress the Eden project in Morecambe funding bid to make it a reality.
Asking a question in the House of Commons David Morris MP said:
‘I welcome the levelling up fund. A project that I have been championing since the outset is the Eden North Project. Would the Chancellor meet with me to discuss the Eden Project in Morecambe ,that is coming shortly?, as this is exactly the kind of shovel ready project that would level up not just Morecambe but the whole of our region’
In response Chancellor Rishi Sunak said:
‘I will be very happy to meet with my Hon Friend and discuss his ambitions for his area and this project. I know he has put a lot of thought and energy into it along with his community and I very much hope that we can make progress over the coming years.’
Speaking following the statement David Morris MP said:
‘Continuing from the final business case submission from Eden to the Government last week, I am delighted that the Chancellor has reaffirmed his commitment to levelling up the North in the spending Review. The Levelling up fund seems a perfect opportunity to enable us to secure the £70million pounds that Eden need to ensure the Project happens. Having already had extensive discussions on this project with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury since the bid was submitted last week I am pleased that the Chancellor has agreed to meet with me to progress this shovel ready project into a reality.’
