Clean-up of a pollution incident on Heysham beach is continuing - with the spill believed to be an "oil or fuel-type substance".
Residents are still being asked to stay away from the Half Moon Bay area while the operation takes place following the spill late last week.
A Lancaster City Council spokesperson said on Monday: "Thank you to everyone for your support, patience and understanding as we continue to deal with the pollution incident at Half Moon Bay.
"While the substance has not yet been fully confirmed, it appears to be an oil or fuel-type substance and we’re working closely with the Environment Agency and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to investigate the source.
"Please continue to stay away from the area as the clean-up operation takes place.
"If you have any information that could assist in identifying the source of the pollution please contact us on 01524 582000.
"We don’t currently have any timescales as to when the work will be completed due to the specialist nature of the clean-up. We’ll provide further updates as the work continues and thank you for your continued support."
A comment from a resident on the council's Facebook page suggested the spill could have been dumped from a plane - as one had been spotted over Morecambe Bay.
But the council replied saying this plane could have been "the coastguard as they overflew the site on Saturday to check the extent of the pollution".
