Emergency services called to fire in Lancaster amid reports of "thick acrid smoke"

Emergency services on Alfred Street in Lancaster on Friday at around 5.20pm

Emergency services were called to the scene of a fire in Lancaster city centre as residents reported billows of "thick black acrid smoke".

Fire engines, police and ambulance were called to a derelict building in Alfred Street, close to the Bulk Road car park on Friday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said they were called at 4.28pm on Friday, the fire was extinguished and crews were there for around two and a half hours.
