Excitement is building ahead of the return of the popular Carnforth Carnival this weekend.
Carnforth Carnival will be back on Saturday (July 2) with a fun packed day for all the family to enjoy promised.
There will be a parade through the town, led by Samba Espirito, through Market Street, Highfield Road, Dunkirk Avenue and Windermere Road, before a packed programme of entertainment on the field at the rear of Carnforth High School.
The procession starts at Keer Park at 10:30, with the main field opening from 11am.
Attractions will include music from James Candlin, Rob Jones and Grace Warwick on the main stage, a fun fair for all younger carnival goers to enjoy, a licensed bar area for the older carnival goers, food stalls, a dog show, a Tug-of-War is back and a bird display.
Alex Parker, Ashleigh Casson, Gabriella and Jasmine T are also among the performers.
It will be the fifth time that the Carnforth Carnival had taken place, since it was revived following a twenty-year absence in 2015. The event was cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic.
Carnforth Carnival was first held in 1963 at Carnforth Cricket Club, and through the 1970s and 80s, had a string of famous faces leading the parade of marching bands and floats through the streets.
They included Emmerdale Farm star Stan Richards, who appeared in his character Seth Armstrong's gamekeeper's hat at the 1988 carnival, its silver jubilee. Crossroads actor Paul Henry, who played handyman Benny Hawkins, was the VIP in 1986.
More recently, in 2019 the event welcomed Danny Miller and Adam Thomas from Emmerdale.
