A new international film festival is set to come to Morecambe later this year.
The Bay International Film Festival (TBIFF) is a new event which is planned to run annually in Morecambe, with the first one from October 27-29.
The festival includes retrospective screenings and a competition to select and award the best visually captivating and thought-provoking short films from around the world.
The inaugural edition of the festival begin from four weeks of a retrospective of films by Stanley Kubrick and climaxing with the 3-day festival with workshops, networking, an awards ceremony, and two screenings of the best short films of this year in Reel cinema in Morecambe, with 200 seats for audiences.
The festival will include a competition to select and award the best visually captivating and thought-provoking short films from around the world. All submissions must be no longer than 15 minutes in duration.
Organisers say they are especially interested in filmmakers that have an ambition of making a social impact, bringing awareness of old and new problems in the society and making an attempt to inspire audiences for thoughts and changes.
A spokesperson for the event said: ‘’The festival is inspired by the unique location of Morecambe Bay and the communities surrounding it.
‘’Intimate in scale and ambitious in its artistic scope, TBIFF aims to promote international independent short films in the Lancashire and Cumbria areas as well as create a cultural dialogue between the audiences of North West England and the world.
‘’We want to inspire local audiences and international filmmakers with great films, thoughtful conversations, and joyful encounters.
‘’Our festival team is working hard to deliver an unforgettable festival experience for all our guests from around the world.’’
In addition to general submissions, there is also a special topic category, “The Impacts of War”, and a special category specifically for local film makers to enter.
Entries can be of any genre and from any country of production, produced after January 2021.
Animation, documentaries, music videos, commercials and promotional films are not eligible.
The full programme of events will be confirmed in due course, but will include a red carpet reception event with a guest speaker, followed by a screening of the guest feature film on day one, a Film Symposium, Q&A with filmmakers, networking events and an awards ceremony on day two, and ending with more Award nominated and winning short films, networking and a closing reception event with live music on day three.
