Firefighters were called to a fire at a dessert cafe in Lancaster city centre.
Emergency services were on the scene at Kaspa's Desserts on Penny Street on Saturday morning.
An eye-witness said there appeared to be smoke and window damage to Kaspa's and many students from the nearby CityBlock apartments were on the street having been evacuated.
A lane of the road was closed and there was heavy traffic in Lancaster city centre on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said they were called just after 7.05am.
Four fire engines from Silverdale, Morecambe, Bolton le Sands and Preston went to the scene to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
By 9.45am the road was open again.
