Flood alert issued for Lancaster and surrounding areas

A flood alert has been issued for Lancaster and nearby areas.

The Environment Agency issued the alert on Tuesday evening for the River Lune, Conder and Keer and other watercourses from Kirkby Lonsdale to Galgate including Gressingham, Carnforth, Hornby, Wray, Bentham and Lancaster.

The warning means that flooding is possible in these areas, people should monitor local water levels and weather conditions and avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.

The Environment Agency Flood Warning System has issued the alert based on rising river or tidal levels, following persistent rain.

A flood alert was also put in place on Tuesday afternoon for the Rivers Wyre, Calder and Brock and other watercourses from Abbeystead to Catterall including Scorton, Garstang, Bilsborrow, Ainspool and Churchtown.
