Giant colourful kites will fly over Morecambe beach after all despite the cancellation of an annual festival.
A team of professional kite flyers arrived in the town this weekend to fly their kites even though the 'Catch the Wind' event isn't happening this year - just so the people of Morecambe don't miss out.
The Northern Kite Group will fly their super-sized kites of octopus, lizard and other shapes on the Morecambe South beach next to the Midland hotel on Sunday - as they have done regularly over the years when the festival has taken place.
Dave Holt from Northern Kite Group told Beyond Radio: "Each summer we choose a place to have a bit of a get-together and fly our kites.
"So this year as the festival isn't happening, we thought we'd have our fly-in on the beach at Morecambe.
"It's not an official kite festival as you'd need permission for that.
"But we didn't want the people of Morecambe to miss out on seeing the kites this year."
The group flies kites all over the world, including in Kuwait and the South of France.
In February, organisers More Music announced that the kite festival would not take place this year.
'Catch the Wind' usually happens every summer on Morecambe Promenade, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, and regularly pulled crowds of thousands to watch the kites and fly their own on the sands.
More Music said the festival was pulled this year due to the "current arts funding climate".
