A Heysham rugby league club is calling on the community to help them make 5,000 tackles in a day in a fundraising effort this Sunday (July 10).
Heysham Atoms have invited players, families and supporters to the Vale of Lune rugby club where they will aim to make 5,000 tackles to raise money for the Atoms.
The club has asked for a £5 donation per person for anyone wanting to take part in the sponsored tackle.
The 5,000 tackles will be done by participants of all ages, ranging from the under-6s to adults, who will be hitting tackle bags. The counting will be done by organisers and volunteers, and tackling will start on the blow of a whistle.
There will be many activities taking place during the day, including raffle draws and a barbecue.
A post on the Atoms' official Facebook page has said it’s also "a huge opportunity to present our strength in numbers" and "celebrate our new pastures" after the club recently joined Vale of Lune in playing their home games at Powderhouse Lane, Lancaster.
Event organiser Josh Skivington co-organised a similar event for the Vale of Lune under-11s last season and said "it was so successful that we wanted to do it again."
"Last year it was for a rugby tour and this year it’s for sponsors," he said.
"We’re looking for as much support as possible, there isn’t a ballpark figure. We’re a bit out of the catchment area so we’re putting things in place to get ourselves out there."
The event gets under way at 1.30pm on Sunday July 10.
