A hotelier and ex-soldier from Morecambe who has terminal cancer is set to take on a 62-mile challenge to raise funds for a Lancaster hospice.
Mal Neill will walk 62 miles in January to raise vital funds for St John's Hospice.
Mal runs the Berkeley bed and breakfast on Marine Road West with his wife Colette.
He will set off each night during January at 6pm, to walk two miles from the Exchange pub on Regent Road to the Clock Tower and back.
Mal will be joined by Colette, friends and customers of the pub, and said anyone else is welcome to join them.
He has also set up a fundraising page for St John's Hospice in Lancaster, who are asking people to run 31 miles in January to raise money for them.
"I have terminal prostate cancer and a partially collapsed lung so can't even run a bath without hurting never mind run a mile, so I will double the miles and walk 62 miles throughout January," said Mal.
"Only around one quarter of (the hospice's) funding is from the NHS, for the remainder they rely on donations from our amazing community.
"Every penny raised makes a difference to their work, enabling the charity to work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year offering care, compassion and support during one of the most difficult times people face.
"My fundraising will help them fund a range of services in the hospice and in patient homes across North Lancashire, the South Lakes and areas of North Yorkshire.
"Thank you for your support."
Mal's fundraising page can be found HERE.
He has also called on men over 50 to make sure they get a prostate check, as it could save lives.
Mal, 68, was in the Kings Own Border Regiment, serving in the Forces for 12 years.
He used to run the local Poppy Appeal, has represented the regiment at remembrance and Armed Forces events across the town for several years, and organises an annual Kings Own reunion in Morecambe.
On the last day of the challenge, Friday January 31, Mal will hold a fundraising raffle in the Exchange beginnng at 7pm, followed by live music.
He is asking for people to get in touch with donations of unwanted Christmas presents for the raffle.
