The MP for Morecambe and Lunesdale has told Beyond Radio that "Morecambe is back on top again" now the Eden Project North is going ahead.
David Morris, who campaigned for years for the project to come to the town, was delighted as crucial £50m funding from the government was confirmed.
"I'm stunned. It's marvellous news," he said.
"Morecambe is never going to be the same again after this.
"We're going to be put back to where we rightfully should be.
"We're going to have the second Eden Project here in Morecambe. It's unheard of.
"People said I was bonkers, the first time I talked about this in the House of Commons.
"Believe me, I've been laughed at, I've been ridiculed, but who's laughing now? We are!"

Mr Morris said: "We've actually got it, we've pulled it off. Everyone's come together. This is a community thing. This is for us all.
"We have reinvented a town here. This is just mindblowing.
"Words fail me to try to put it across just how big this is.
"I've always had this feeling that Morecambe is the most unsung hero of the north west. We've had our hard times, but now we're back on top again."
