Excited onlookers spoke to Beyond Radio outside Lancaster Castle about what the King's visit meant to them.
We spoke to some of the people gathered near Castle Hill hoping to meet the King, ahead of his visit on Monday.
One called it "a memorable day for the city".
His Majesty, the Duke of Lancaster, took part in a ceremonial presentation of the keys to the castle, met representatives of local organisations, and unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit.
Large crowds waving the red, white and blue Union flags, including school children, were delighted when the King did a Royal 'walkabout' after he emerged from the castle.
