A group of intrepid local adventurers have completed a charity trek across a famous ancient Spanish pilgrimage route to raise money for a Lancaster hospice.
A group of 19 took on the Camino Frances, the legendary ‘French Way’, part of the Camino de Santiago, for St John's Hospice, walking more than 113km in five days.
The route saw them walk over areas of tough terrain and unseasonable 28 degree Spanish heat, ending the trek at the stunning cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
£62,000 has been raised for the Hospice, with money still coming in.
A spokesperson for St John’s said: ‘’These intrepid fundraisers have just completed over 100km of the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.
‘’They were welcomed with cheers from a huge crowd including their families, friends and the staff of St John’s Hospice. After some very emotional reunions and plenty of tears they were treated to welcome home cakes prepared by our wonderful catering team!’’
You can still sponsor the team via JustGiving, here
The Hospice still has spaces on their 2026 adventure, where they plan to trek the Great Wall of China – click here for more details.
St John’s Hospice, based on Slyne Road in Lancaster, is a local charity which provides free palliative care to patients with life shortening conditions, in North Lancashire, South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire.
