Lancaster Brewery said they received "a wave of negative reviews, aggressive emails and online hostility" after cancelling a booking for a Reform UK event.
The political party booked a summer event at the brewery's Lancaster Leisure Park venue.
But the brewery said they cancelled it after discovering Reform had made the booking, because their policy is not to host events for any political party.
A statement posted on Lancaster Brewery's public Facebook page on Sunday said:
"Last week, we cancelled a booking for a July event after discovering it was for the Reform Party. Since then, we have received a wave of negative reviews, aggressive emails and online hostility.
"To be clear: We do not host events for any political party. That has been our policy for years. We have quietly turned down approaches from across the political spectrum and have always tried to remain nonpolitical and nonjudgmental.
"This event was not cancelled because of 'woke pressure' or 'leftie loons'. It was cancelled because it should never have been accepted in the first place. The booking came through as a generic business event. Had it been clear from the outset that it was political, we would not have taken it.
"We understand people have strong views, but directing anger at a small independent brewery for enforcing a long standing policy seems misplaced.
"We hope this now clarifies things."
There were more than 200 comments in response to the statement, with the majority praising the Brewery for their actions.
Ian said: "Good on ya. Nowt worse than going to a pub/club/brew house and finding politics."
Kirsty said: "Well done Lancaster Brewery. Full of admiration for your stance."
There was also some criticism of the Brewery, with one person asking why they had felt it necessary to announce the cancellation in such a public way.
In response, Lancaster Brewery posted:
"For your information and to stop this latest conspiracy from gaining traction - we didn’t leak or announce anything. We were contacted on Friday by the press about the cancellation and responded with the following:
“'We believe this was simply a misunderstanding. The booking was made under the description of a 'business event' using a private email address and without clear details. At no point was it identified as political.
"'Since 2016, we have had a firm policy of not hosting political events at any of our venues. We will be making this policy far more explicit going forward to ensure there is no ambiguity in future bookings.
"'We are an inclusive and ethically minded business, and it is important to us that we remain independent of all party political affiliations.'
"As you can tell by the tone of the email, we wanted to downplay the issue. We are still downplaying the issue.
"Everyone has their own personal politics and we welcome everyone to our pubs and bars. What we don’t do is prescribe to any one political party - we love being a broad church.
"There’s no argument here, no hidden agenda, no fury from us or Reform (as far as I know). We should all move on.
"Hope that clarifies the matter."
Reform UK declined to comment on the cancellation, but said their team was now looking for an alternative venue.
