A Lancaster centre has celebrated the official opening of its new community kitchen with a visit from the mayor.
The Marsh Community Centre welcomed Councillor Margaret Pattison for the opening of its newly refurbished kitchen, marking a significant milestone for the centre and the residents it supports.
The visit celebrated months of planning, fundraising, and renovation work that has transformed the kitchen into a modern, fully equipped space designed to benefit families, young people, and community groups across the area.
The upgraded facilities will enable the centre to expand its food programmes, cooking sessions, youth activities, and community events.
During the visit, the mayor met with Deborah, the Chief Executive Officer, Chelsea the Manager and some other staff, trustees volunteers and young members of the centre, taking time to learn more about the wide range of services delivered each week from youth clubs and family support to food provision and skills workshops.
The mayor praised the dedication of the team and the positive impact the centre continues to have within the local community.
Centre representatives expressed their gratitude to funders, especially Asda foundation and Ruth their charity champion who was present, Bernard Sunley who also funded the kitchen, local business Mark Whiteside Joinery Ltd who fitted the kitchen, Howdens of Lancaster who designed and supplied the kitchen and supporters whose contributions made the renovation possible.
The new kitchen is expected to play a vital role in strengthening community connections, improving access to nutritious food, and creating further learning opportunities for young people.
The opening concluded with a short tour of the facilities and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
