Lancaster City’s pre-season schedule concluded with a victory against Preston North End Under 23s.
The final result at the Giant Axe was 3-1 to the home team.
The Dolly Blues scored two goals in the first half, one during the first few seconds of the game and the other coming on the stroke of half-time.
PNE’s young team halved the deficit early into the second half, but a late strike from Dom Lawson, a new signing at Lancaster City, made sure of the victory.
No sooner did the referee blow the first whistle than Nico Evangelinos scored, having put pressure on PNE’s goalkeeper James Pradic and intercepted an attempted pass to the defence.
The end-to-end game had one or two clear cut chances as the half went on, and Jake Connolly capitalised on his, chipping James Pradic from the edge of the box and making it 2-0 to City heading into the break.
North End youngster Noah Mawene slotted home from inside the box not long after the restart.
PNE’s Dana Amaral and Lancaster City’s Christian Sloan were forced off through injury at separate points during a second half in which chances were few and far between.
However, later on in the half, Dom Lawson’s header found the crossbar, but he would go on to have more luck in front of goal.
City’s new prolific front man did find the net just minutes later, latching onto a long ball and driving the ball into the net from inside the 12-yard area.
Tuesday’s game marked the end of on-the-pitch preparations to what will hopefully be a successful and enjoyable season for the Dolly Blues, with them having secured many impressive signings, including Lawson, ex-Manchester United academy defender Calen Gallagher-Allison and former Chorley midfielder Dale Whitham.
Lancaster City have just formed a women’s team and are looking for players to sign up – those wishing to join can contact lancastercityladiesfc@gmail.com.
Additionally, the club has partnered with Her Game Too, a group committed to ending sexism in football.
Manager Mark Fell and his squad will now be looking ahead to their first competitive game of the season against Nantwich Town at the Giant Axe on August 13.
