The Lancaster MP joined May Day marchers in the city centre at a rally against war, racism and the rising cost of living.
Cat Smith spoke at a rally in Dalton Square following the annual May Day march on Saturday, organised by Lancaster and Morecambe Trades Union Council.
The 200-strong march around Lancaster was led by musicians from More Music in Morecambe with plenty of banners on show.
The march was followed by a rally in Dalton Square with speakers from a wide variety of trade unions, political parties, campaigning and community groups.
Ms Smith spoke at the rally, as did speakers from the Green Party, University and Colleges Union National Education Union, Blackpool Fylde and Wyre TUC Rail, Maritime and Transport Union, Extinction Rebellion, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, Tenants and Community Union, East Meets West, Stand Up to Racism and Out in The Bay.
There were calls for community unity in response to leafleting by a right-wing extremist group in parts of the city the previous Sunday.
Sam Ud-din, speaking for Stand Up to Racism, urged people to join mass anti-racist leafleting in Lancaster.
Peter Billington, secretary of the Lancashire-wide movement of trades union councils, paid tribute to its former president Dave Wilson who recently died. Dave had been a regular supporter and attender of the May Day marches and meetings.
The rally was followed by a family friendly open mic event at the Gregson Centre attended by 50 people.
