Students from a Lancaster school have been praised for helping good causes over Christmas through a toy appeal and by raising more than £1600.
Sixth Form students at Ripley St Thomas collected funds and items for the Lancaster & District Homeless Action Service and the Salvation Army Toy Appeal.
The money raised for LDHAS totalled £1642.80, thanks to Mrs Price's skydive, a Festive Pets competition, a special Sixth Form mufti day, cake bakes and raffles, and match funding from the Aviva Community Fund.
The Salvation Army thanked Ripley pupils Sarah-Jane and Kaitlyn who organised the toy appeal and collected 115 presents to put smiles on face of boys and girls over Christmas.
“I honestly can’t thank you enough, girls," said a Salvation Army spokesperson.
"A big shout out to Sarah-Jane and Kaitlyn you’ve smashed it out of the water again girls. Thank you very much for all your help, time and patience and a thank you to the Dad who dropped them all off at the shop.”
The Student Leadership Team at Ripley organised the events and collections/drop off of warm clothing donations to LDHAS.
Ripley thanked everyone who participated, helped, or donated in any way.
The school's grand total from recent fundraising is £5306.36, after also raising £1424.72 for St John's Hospice from a Reindeer Rush, Christmas market, raffles and Y7 film afternoon, £274 for CancerCare from a Y8 film afternoon and £1964.84 for Save the Children UK from a Christmas Jumper Day.
Pupils also supplied 73 chocolate advent calendars to CancerCare and hundreds of reverse advent donations to Lancaster charity The Olive Branch.
"t becomes easy to forget what Christmas is all about, however we hope that the actions of our pupils who have demonstrated our school value of service, through shining a spotlight and fundraising for such worthy charities, goes some way to keeping the Christmas message alive," said a Ripley spokesperson.
