An author's 'cosy crime novel' set in the Lune Valley has been inspired by the war in Ukraine and refugees.
Lisa Nicholas has written 'Sister, Liar, Suspect, Sleuth' centred around a main character called Mila Kiss - a heavy metal loving, human rights lawyer with a kick ass attitude and drive for justice at any cost, and a murder to solve.
Lisa, a Lancaster University MA creative writing student from Eskrigge near Gressingham, said she was first inspired to write the novel in 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the homes for refugees programme.
"I wanted to challenge the views we may hold about what a war refugee looks like, and so I created Mila Kiss," she said.
"Before living here, I was in Pendle, and before that I grew up in Ashton-under-Lyne, with a couple of stints down south.
"I read modern history at Balliol College, Oxford (2000 - 2003) and lived in London for a few years after that. However, I followed my heart back to Lancashire many years ago and haven't looked back.
"Before I decided to write full time, I worked in advertising for almost 20 years, and that allowed me to travel the world for work, which was amazing.
"I'm happiest now though out in the sticks, just me, my husband, and our two gorgeous dogs (Beau and Bear). I love the quiet life these days."

Sister, Liar, Suspect, Sleuth is the first in the Mila Kiss Mysteries and the second book, Mother, Rebel, Misfit, Sleuth is out on June 11 but available to pre-order now HERE.
Lisa is also currently writing book three.
Signed paperback copies of Sister Liar Suspect Sleuth are at The Book Lounge in Kirkby Lonsdale, and you can buy on Kindle and audiobook on Amazon HERE.
On March 29, Lisa will be holding an afternoon of fictional crime, fizz, and cake at Carnforth Bookshop from 1pm, where she will be reading, signing books, and answering questions.
