The new man on Morecambe Town Council has expressed his joy after winning the Bare South West by-election this week.
Phil Forster won the vacant seat with 85 votes, ahead of Sarah Knight of the Morecambe Bay Independents (67) and Labour’s Thomas Tyler (62).
The turnout was 17.50%.
Cllr Forster said: "I am proud and delighted to have been chosen by the residents of Bare South West to represent them.
‘’The reason I joined the local party was because I am so impressed by the amazing work they are doing in our town to improve the look and feel of our area. I can't wait to get started in working with the group to continue to make a difference.
‘’I wish to offer my sincere thanks to the people who voted for me, and to assure the residents that I will be here for all of you if you need help or advice on any issue."
Morecambe Liberal Democrat group leader Cllr Bill Jackson said: "This is another example of the residents supporting the Lib Dems in liaising with the community to work together to bring about positive change.
‘’It is recognised that our town is noticeably cleaner and tidier than it used to be. There is still much to do, but we are on the right track.
‘’Less than twelve months ago the Lib Dems had just a single councillor on Morecambe Town Council. Now there are seven of us and we are all committed to making our town one that we can enjoy and be proud of.’’
