A 95-year-old man who has raised thousands for the local hospice was honoured with a Local Hero Award at the annual Barefest.
Tony Kadelbach received the award from Councillor Martin Bottoms, the new Lord Mayor of Bare, on Saturday.
Mr Kadelbach, who lives in Morecambe and is an author and musician, said: "I was absolutely in tears, I couldn't believe it, I couldn't take it in and I still can't take it in."
He has written three books in the past five years, which have focused on his life, his travels with his late wife Iris in Canada and about his lifetime’s interest in music – all of which have raised funds for St John's Hospice in Lancaster.
Mr Kadelbach, who has been playing the piano since the age of eight, will also release a CD of his music in aid of the hospice.
Westmorland Homecare’s Lancaster and Morecambe branch are funding the cost of creating the CDs and one of its homecare assistants Damien Whittam has helped to record, mix and master the album, called ‘Tony’s Musical Memories’.

Crowds of people descended on the Princes Crescent and Bare Lane area on Saturday, to enjoy a day of live entertainment, family activities and stalls, including music and announcements from Beyond Radio.
There was also a parade through the streets ahead of the official mayor making, led by town crier and local hairdresser County Councillor Russell Walsh.
Paul Thompson, President of Bare Village Club, officially inaugurated Councillor Bottoms as the Lord Mayor of Bare.

Councillor Bottoms became the 14th Lord Mayor of Bare, in a tradition dating back to 1910.
"I think it's been a fantastic day," said Councillor Bottoms, who represents Bare on both Lancaster City Council and Morecambe Town Council.
"To see so many people here is just amazing. It's nice to keep things how they used to be, preserving that history is a wonderful thing."
