A Heysham man has been arrested after an elderly woman was found seriously injured in Lancaster.
The 32-year-old man was in custody after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
Police were called at around 7.30am on Tuesday (April 5) after the woman, who is in her 70s, was found with a serious head injury on the cycle track close to Ovangle Road.
She was later taken to hospital for treatment and is in a serious condition.
DS Chris Hammond, of Lancaster CID, said: “We can confirm a man has been arrested in connection with our investigation.
“While we have made an arrest, we are continuing to conduct a number of enquiries and are working hard to establish exactly what occurred."
