Man in his 70s dies after road traffic collision in Lune Valley

A motorist has died after a road traffic collision at Melling.

The driver, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead following the incident on Melling Road on Friday morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage.

"Our officers were called to Melling Road at 9.50am yesterday (March 6) following reports a black Peugeot 308 had come off the carriageway at low speed before coming to rest against a hedgerow," said a Lancaster Area Police spokesperson.

"No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

"The driver, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital and despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was sadly pronounced deceased a short time later. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this very difficult time."

Sgt Kate Brady, from the police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has died in what appear to be extremely tragic circumstances.

"My thoughts are very much with those who knew him at this distressing time.

“I would ask any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage which captured the Peugeot in the minutes leading up to the collision to make contact with police as soon as possible.”
