Two Morecambe beaches have been recognised for their quality with national awards.
Morecambe North and South beaches have both been granted a Seaside Award.
These prestigious national awards, delivered through Keep Britain Tidy, celebrate the quality and diversity of England’s coastline and are a symbol that visitors can find a clean, safe and well-managed coastal stretch.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton OBE said: “In England we are lucky enough to have some of the best beaches in the world. It’s wonderful to see the flags flying proudly over beaches in Blackpool, demonstrating their quality to residents and visitors alike.
"Achieving this accreditation shows the commitment of beach managers and local authorities to protect them for years to come.
“The awards are a credit to the collective efforts of beach and site managers, volunteers, residents and businesses who should take pride today in their tireless efforts to maintain, protect and improve some of our best-loved and most popular blue spaces.”
In total 144 sites - made up of 142 beaches along with a marina and an inland bathing water - have been presented with awards recognising the quality of the sites, the way they are managed and the facilities they offer to visitors.
In order to qualify, each applicant must meet and maintain a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria.
To help keep the beaches clean and comply with the Seaside Award requirements, dog and horse owners are reminded that their animals are banned from the two beaches until September 30.
They are still welcome on other sections of shoreline either side of the two bathing beaches. This includes the Battery all the way to Heysham and the Green Street breakwater to Hest Bank.
