Morecambe lifeboat crew rescue fishermen stranded ‘waist deep’ in rising tide

Lifeboat volunteers rescued three fishermen who were in danger of being cut off by the tide in Morecambe Bay.

They were called into action by HM Coastguard on Tuesday (June 16) to assist three fishermen stranded at Throbshaw Point, surrounded by rising waters during the incoming tide.

The quick-response volunteer crew launched immediately, reaching the scene promptly.

They carefully rescued the fishermen, who were waist-deep in water along with their fishing gear, and brought them safely to the awaiting CRT team.

Paul Turner, Morecambe RNLI Operations Manager, said: ‘’This incident highlights the critical importance of tide awareness in Morecambe Bay, where water levels can vary significantly.

‘’We strongly advise everyone to check tide times before venturing out onto the sands or rock armours in this area.

‘’While this rescue was successfully and safely completed, it serves as a reminder of how the dedication and bravery of our volunteers saves lives.

The rescue was the first for new volunteer Fiona Kerr, who completed the operation after more than a year of rigorous training.

“A huge congratulations to Fiona for confidently stepping into her volunteer role. Your effort and commitment are truly appreciated,’’ added Paul.
