Morecambe’s lifeboat crew responded to reports of ‘flashing lights and red flares’ at sea over the weekend.
The volunteer RNLI team received a call from the coastguard at around 11:10pm on Saturday night, to assist after it was understood flashing lights and two red flares were seen in the direction of Grange Over Sands.
Launch Authority Martyn Browitt authorised the launch of both the lifeboat and hovercraft to make to the area to commence a search.
Upon arrival they were joined by Barrow’s all-weather lifeboat in a joint search operation.
Pyros were used by the crew took place to illuminate the area, but following completion of a search with no people or other craft found they returned back to station to be made ready for the next shout.
