A Morecambe woman is taking part in a gruelling challenge to mark five years since a life-saving transplant as she continues her search for the donor who saved her life.
Elspeth Roberts is walking the 83 miles of the Hadrian's Wall path to celebrate five years since her stem cell transplant.
Elspeth has twice survived Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, a form of blood cancer.
Her walk, accompanied by her mum Sue, is to raise money for Leukaemia Care to help people affected by the disease.
Meanwhile, Elspeth is also continuing her search for the woman she calls her 'cell mate', who donated the cells for her life-saving transplant.
She knows the woman is from Norway and donated the cells in May 2017.
Every year she has shared a post on Facebook trying to find her, but has been unable to locate the amazing stranger.
"We have both written and both want to meet but neither of us know who we are," said Elspeth.
"I just want to be able to thank her in person."
The west to east coast Hadrian's Wall walk marks five years since the transplant after Elspeth was diagnosed with leukaemia for the second time.
Elspeth calls it her "fifth birthday".
"It's not been an easy journey, both physically and mentally," she said.
"It has pushed me to my limits. I suffer with long term effects such as mental health issues and severe fatigue amongst many other conditions and I have recently been diagnosed with ME as a result of the intense treatment and transplant which came as a bit of a shock.
"Walking the wall will be a big challenge for me as I suffer greatly with fatigue but I am determined to raise much needed funds to help other people affected by blood cancer.
"Cancer charities such as Leukaemia Care help you feel less alone during such an isolating process."
You can sponsor Elspeth via her Just Giving page here.
Elspeth runs Wise Up Workshops, drama and art workshops and classes to promote personal development, confidence, communication and well-being for all ages and abilities.
