The new Mayor of Lancaster has launched a new initiative in support of the work done by Citizens Advice North Lancashire.
Cllr Abi Mills unveiled ‘Music with the Mayor’ over the weekend, and promises to be a vibrant celebration of local musical talent for a good cause.
This innovative project aims to spotlight the diverse music scene in Lancaster and Morecambe while supporting the vital work of Citizens Advice in the community.
Over the coming year, Mayor Mills plans to host and attend a series of special events and gigs across Lancaster and Morecambe, showcasing a wide spectrum of musical genres and performers, including bands, choirs, school music groups, and more.
The initiative kicks off with a lineup that includes a Christmas disco and a Burn's night ceilidh, with more surprises to come.
Caroline Robertson, Research and Campaigns Lead at Citizens Advice North Lancashire, said: "We are honoured that Mayor Mills has chosen Citizens Advice North Lancashire as her charity.
‘’These events promise to be not only enjoyable for the community but also critical in helping us raise funds to support people during the cost of living crisis. We’ve already heard from a number of bands and singers who want to get involved, and we’re hoping to secure an award-winning, record breaking household name to complete the line-up. Watch this space!’’
Mayor Mills added: "Music with the Mayor combines two of my passions - live music and community service.
‘’We have an abundance of talent in Lancaster and Morecambe, and I can't wait to celebrate it all - from folk to punk, community choirs to sea shanties!
‘’The staff and incredible volunteers provide an essential service, helping thousands of people in the local area to deal with all sorts of issues from poverty and debt, to domestic abuse and evictions. They are a lifeline for so many and I was in no doubt I'd like to support the charity during my time as Mayor.’’
