Householders were surprised to receive 'mysterious' deliveries of bottles of water as homes in Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth suffered water pressure problems.
Residents in Bare and Torrisholme reported finding litres of bottled water on their doorsteps over the weekend, with no note of explanation.
Care homes in Morecambe including The Sands on Marine Road East also received deliveries.
A householder on South Road in Morecambe said she'd received 24 litres of bottled water and didn't know where they'd come from.
Another resident said her entire street had 12 two litre bottles of water delivered to their front doors.
Beyond Radio discovered that the deliveries had been made by water company United Utilities.
The company was providing bottles of water in case customers lost supply due to issues in the area.
United Utilities said that some residents in parts of Lancaster and Morecambe were "experiencing poor pressure or no supply".
“We’re doing all we can to get our network back to normal as quickly as possible, and have delivered bottled water to affected customers on our Priority Services register," said a spokesperson.
“We apologise for the disruption and thank customers for their patience.”
An update on the company's website on Sunday said the issues in Lancaster and Morecambe were "due to an increase in the number of leaks on customers’ plumbing and on our water pipes in that area of our water network".
There were also problems in Carnforth, which United Utilities have been working on over the weekend.
"The work in your area is still ongoing and we can’t thank you enough for your patience whilst we sort this," said United Utilities' website on Sunday.
"We are making good progress, but it’s a little trickier than we first thought so the work will continue throughout the day.
"Our water tankers will be pumping additional supply into the network. All customers should have some supply, however this may mean water pressure may be lower than normal or you might notice fluctuation during peak times. Once again, we’re sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing and thank you for your patience."
Residents in Overton also experienced water supply issues on Thursday.
United Utilities has also issued some advice about frozen pipes following the recent bitterly cold weather, which is due to improve over the coming days.
"After the freezing weather conditions across the region, the temperature is on the up again.
"As the weather warms up any frozen pipes in your home will begin to thaw. When this happens, some of your pipes may leak or burst as a result of being frozen; it's worth taking a few steps now to be prepared.
"Burst and leaking pipes can cause damage to your home or business, so being prepared will help to reduce the impact of flooding from burst pipes, which can be extremely distressing as well as costly and time-consuming to repair.
"If you do have a burst pipe, don't panic, follow our advice below:
- Find your stop tap, which is usually under the kitchen sink and turn it clockwise to turn off the water. Watch our video below for advice on how to find your stop tap.
- Turn off your heating, open all your taps to drain the system quickly.
- Soak up any escaping water with towels.
- Check with your home insurance company to see if you’re covered for leaks and bursts or call a plumber.

- If water has leaked near your electrics switch them off at the mains.
