Plans have been revealed for an auction house and antiques showroom to open in the former home of Morecambe and Heysham Sea Cadets.
Antiques and Auctions are set to open in the Pedder Street building, holding regular auctions for people to bid for antique items.
Having bought the premises recently vacated by the sea cadets, Antiques and Auctions have submitted a planning application to Lancaster City Council for 'change of use' on the building.
Antiques and Auctions Ltd, run by auctioneer Garth Drinkall, opened a saleroom on White Lund Avenue in Morecambe in 2024.
Mr Drinkall said he felt a new auction house was something Morecambe needs.
He said regular auctions would be held there, and people can also bid online.
Mr Drinkall said he'd already built up a "tight knit community" of antiques lovers at the premises on White Lund and was looking forward to expanding into Morecambe town centre.
He said he hopes to open later in the year.
A report submitted with the plans says: "They are a business selling online and via a saleroom selling all manner of goods and collectibles.
"These are sourced from local house clearances and/or brought into the saleroom directly by members of the public.
"The business has been successfully trading for over 12 months which demonstrates a need for a local auction house.
"The nearest auction house is some 25 miles away near Kendal.
"Historically there has been an auction house in Morecambe but this closed over 30 years ago.
"Pedder Street has a wide-range and variety of shops and services, and the change of use can only have a beneficial effect upon the street and indeed will, it is hoped, add to its vibrancy.
"There are very few traditional trading streets left in Morecambe and Pedder Street is one of them.
"The change of use will give a new life to the building in a retail capacity adding to the footfall on Pedder Street and the symbiotic relationship with neighbouring retail businesses."
The proposed opening hours are 10am to 4pm weekdays and 10am to noon on Saturdays.
Lancaster City Council will decide on whether to grant planning permission in due course.
The property on Pedder Street is a small stone-built chapel built in 1855.
According to records, it was sold in October 1949 to The Navy League.
After using the building for many years, the sea cadets are now based at Mossgate Primary School, Heysham.
