WH Smith has applied for permission for new signs at its shop in Lancaster ahead of its change of name.
The long-standing retailer will be rebranding high street stores around the UK under the name 'TG Jones'.
WH Smith has applied for planning permission to replace its existing WH Smith signs at the shop on Market Street in Lancaster city centre, with new like-for-like TJ Jones signs.
More than 480 UK stores including the Lancaster shop were sold to specialist retail and consumer investment firm, Modella Capital, in a £76m deal, earlier this year.
The iconic newspaper, magazine, toy, stationery and book retailer opened its first shop in London in 1792, and has been on Market Street for decades.
The deal covers WH Smith shops on high streets, shopping centres and retail parks, but not airports, hospitals, railway stations and motorway service areas.

"Changes proposed as part of the works to change WH Smith branding to TG Jones branding includes installing heritage aesthetic styled signage to the existing front," says a heritage statement submitted with the plans.
"The existing blue aluminium WH Smith fascias will be replaced with new blue aluminium fascias on all elevations, and the white WH Smith vinyl lettering will be replaced like for like with white TG Jones vinyl lettering.
"All work will involve using the same materials, specifications and colours. None of the signage will be illuminated. These additions are very much keeping with the character of the area and will have very little impact on the surrounding properties."
A Post Office branch is located inside the WH Smith building in Lancaster.
WH Smith has put in a listed building application for the replacement of signage with like for like signage to all elevations, and an advertisement application for the display of four non illuminated fascia signs and one projecting sign.
Lancaster City Council will make a decision on the planning application in due course.
