Five pedal-powered audio players telling interesting facts about Morecambe voiced by a star of Coronation Street are being installed along the Promenade.
The five 'Audionetic Playnetic' devices are located at the Time and Tide Bell, the Eric Morecambe statue, the Mountainscape Panorama, the RNLI lifeboat station at Green Street and the Sailing Club race office.
People will be able to pump a pedal with their foot to power an audio education story voiced by Julia Haworth.
Julia (pictured below, image from Voiceovers-UK) played Claire Peacock in the long-running TV soap between 2003 and 2011, as well as starring in Morecambe-based crime drama The Bay, and other TV shows Call the Midwife and Doctors.
The interactive and fun pieces of playground equipment are being installed by Morecambe Business Improvement District (BID) with help from United Utilities and other partners.
They will go live in the last week of June.
Here is one of the devices pictured by the Sailing Club race office on Monday. This story will be themed on 'Birds of the Bay'.
The idea came about after the BID entered talks with United Utilities, who pledged to donate to a local project following the loss of water supply which affected thousands of residents in December 2022.
Morecambe BID put forward several innovative projects, with the Audionetics proposal emerging as the chosen one.
The stories are "designed to celebrate and illuminate the rich cultural and natural heritage of Morecambe".
By scanning a QR code on a board next to each device, the user will be directed to a specific page on the Morecambe BID website explaining more.
“We are excited to bring this project to Morecambe," said Ruth Wilkinson, chair of Morecambe BID and owner of The Consult Centre social media agency in Morecambe.

Morecambe BID (Business Improvement District) Community Interest Company has been established by Morecambe businesses to promote and improve the business environment in the town.
