A podcast series, exploring the past, present and future of Morecambe Winter Gardens has been created.
The series features interviews with volunteers, performers, trustees and some of the tradespeople helping to restore and rejuvenate this iconic venue.
The episodes were recorded in and around the Winter Gardens, and showcase a soundscape made with field recordings of the building and its surroundings.
It’s narrated by long time Winter Gardens volunteer Jan Downie, produced by Kitty Turner, with additional voiceover recording and script by Nigel Thompson.
There are four episodes in the series.
Episode One, 'Who keeps the lights on?', features the team of volunteers, past and present, running, maintaining and helping to restore Morecambe's iconic Winter Gardens.
Episode Two, 'Brick by brick', is a deep dive into the rich history and architecture of the building, and the talented craftspeople breathing life back into the Winter Gardens.
Episode Three, 'The great and the good', focuses on some of the contemporary artists and performers who've trodden the Winter Garden's hallowed boards in more recent times, and hear what the building means to them.
Episode Four, 'Memories and new beginnings', hears personal stories and recollections of the Winter gardens, some told for the first time, and listeners can find out more about what the future holds for the building.
