Police are investigating a report of a man thought to be carrying a knife being abusive to a child on the cycle track between Lancaster and Morecambe.
Officers have released a detailed description of a man they are looking for, following the incident on the cycle track near Asda supermarket at around 8.40am on Friday, November 15.
Det Insp Adie Knowles, of Lancaster Police, appealed for information from the public on his regular 'Beyond the Beat' on Beyond Radio on Tuesday.
Det Insp Knowles said: "We had a report from Grosvenor Park School where a child was going to school and he got approached by male who was rather abusive towards him.
"This young child described that he could see a handle in his waistband, as if he thought he was carrying a knife.
"Officers attended after it was reported to us.
"There was an area search and there has been extensive CCTV work done on the cycle track because luckily now we have various cameras up and down the cycle track.
"Unfortunately that individual hasn't been identified.
"If anyone knows who that individual is, a very distinctive individual who would have been on the cycle track at that time of morning, please contact us."
Det Insp Knowles gave a detailed description of the man they want to speak to.
He was described as white, around 30, hood up, slight black beard, 5ft 11, leather jacket, black jeans, black shoes, with a Scouse accent, with a small Staffie dog on a lead, possibly with a tattoo on his right hand and inside his wrist.
Det Insp Knowles said "the description of the individual involved in that incident is not the same" as the one from a similar incident on the cycle track reported to police on September 13.
"I don't want the community of Morecambe who use the cycle track to get overly concerned," he said.
"But that incident (on November 15) in isolation is worrying and we could do with identifying who that individual is.
"There has been quite a lot of work done around CCTV inquiries but unfortunately at this stage, it hasn't taken us any further."
On September 13, officers were called to the cycle track following a report that a man had been seen on the cycle way, possibly in possession of a knife or a garden tool.
Nearby Grosvenor Park school and Tiny Treasures Nursery and Pre-School at Lancaster and Morecambe College went into temporary lockdown that afternoon, and advised parents not to pick their children up.
The lockdown was later lifted after staff were informed that it was safe to do so, and children left the building.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said at the time: "At around 3:05pm today (13th September) we were called to Roeburn Drive, Morecambe to a report of a man carrying a weapon.
"Officers attended and conducted a search in the area. Enquiries are continuing.
"We are satisfied that there is no wider threat to the public."
If you have any information please contact police on 101, visit Morecambe or Lancaster police stations, or call Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
