Police are investigating the possible drug related deaths of three people in Morecambe and Carnforth, including one linked to taking contaminated heroin.
The Lancashire Drug Alert Panel and Inspire Lancashire said there have been three drug-related deaths in the area in the last two weeks, associated with the contaminated heroin.
A poster issued on January 23 said that lab tests on drugs found at the scene of one death have detected heroin contaminated with nitazenes, extremely strong synthetic opioids.
Lancaster and Morecambe Area Police continue to investigate the deaths.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: ‘’Enquiries into the deaths, which happened at different locations and on different occasions earlier this month, are continuing but at this time there appears to be no link between the individuals involved.
‘’The three deceased were a man in his 30s from Morecambe, a man in his 40s from Morecambe and a man in his 50s from Carnforth.
‘’While one line of enquiry is that one of the deceased had taken contaminated heroin, there is no confirmation at this stage that this is what caused his death and there is no evidence that the other two deaths were caused by contaminated heroin.
‘’However, given the three deaths occurred over a relatively short space of time we are continuing to advise drug users to seek immediate medical attention if they notice any different symptoms or start to feel unwell.
‘’It’s important to understand that taking drugs always carries risk. There is no reliable way to know precisely what you are putting into your body or whether it is safe.’’

The spokesperson added: ‘’Lancashire Constabulary takes a proactive response into tackling the issue of drugs in the county.
‘’We would urge people who have information about illegal drug related activity to come forward and contact us on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.’’
