Passengers have been given a 'do not travel' warning as severe gales are due to hit the region over the weekend.
Avanti West Coast have told customers not to travel north of Preston on Friday due to the expected disruption from Storm Eowyn.
There are no trains running north of Preston (to/from Lancaster, Cumbria, Glasgow or Edinburgh).
The Met Office has issued amber severe weather warnings for Friday, with winds predicted to reach around 75mph in the Lancaster and Morecambe area, and could be in excess of 90mph around Irish Sea coasts.
Avanti West Coast operates the West Coast Main Line from London to Scotland, which travels through Lancaster.
"If you are due to travel north of Preston or on our North Wales route on Friday January 24, then your existing ticket can be used on any Avanti West Coast service via the same route from Thursday January 23 until the end of service on Sunday January 26," said an Avanti spokesperson.
"Alternatively, if you abandoned your journey as a result of the disruption, then you can claim a fee free refund from where you bought your ticket. If you continued with your journey but were delayed by 15 minutes or more, you can claim Delay Repay compensation from the train company you travelled with."
Train services running across the whole Northern network may also be cancelled or delayed. Disruption is expected until the end of January 24. This includes the Lancaster to Morecambe route.
TransPennine Express is also advising passengers not to travel between Manchester/Liverpool and Scotland.
