Emergency and rescue services have been searching near Morecambe Promenade after a report of a man in the water.
A police spokesperson said they were called at around 11:55am on Saturday to reports of "concern for safety" on Marine Road in Morecambe.
The spokesperson said that emergency services, with support from the Coastguard and the lifeboat crew, attended the scene after a man entered the water.
A search and rescue helicopter has also been circling the area.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard is coordinating a search after a report of concern about a man in the water at Morecambe.
"The alarm was raised at about 11.40am on 13 April. The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon has been sent, along with the RNLI's hovercraft and inshore lifeboat from Morecambe.
"Coastguard rescue teams from Arnside, Knott End and Morecambe are supporting on land. Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue have also been alerted."
Morecambe RNLI provided an update on Saturday evening. They said:
"Morecambe RNLI volunteers were called to service on Saturday 13th April 2024 at 11.38am to reports of a person in the water opposite Morecambe Golf Club.
"The inshore rescue hovercraft (IRH) and inshore rescue lifeboat (ILB) launched on service shortly after the initial call. Upon arrival, the crew immediately commenced a visual search in the area full alongside HM Coastguard helicopter which is based in Caernarfon.
"The wind conditions within Morecambe Bay picked up to 20-25 knots during the search and at 2.03pm the IRH returned to station to ensure the safety of the volunteer crew members. The ILB and HM Coastguard helicopter continued to search the area. This was multi agency call with HM Coastguard teams and Lancashire Police also involved in the search.
"The ILB briefly returned the station for refuelling and a change of volunteers, before heading back out to continue the search.
"Despite the thorough efforts of both vessels, no sightings were made. Due to the tide and the wind conditions, the IRH and ILB returned to station.
"This incident underscores the dedication and readiness of the Morecambe RNLI team to respond to emergencies at a moment's notice. We would like to remind everyone to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard if they suspect someone might be in danger."
