Planned changes at an ambulance station in Morecambe have been given the go-ahead.
Lancaster City Council has this week granted planning permission for a revamp at the North West Ambulance Service station on Woodlands Drive.
The plans are to convert the existing ambulance garage space into internal accommodation, as well as rendering of the existing building, make alterations to windows and doors, build an external staircase with security fencing, create a canopy, bin store and cycle store, install air source heat pumps, and reconfigure the car parking and ambulance bay area.
A report published by the council, in giving the go-ahead, says:
"The application site refers to a red brick building which is used as an ambulance station located on Woodlands Drive in Heysham.
"The site is accessed via Woodlands Drive and off-street parking is provided at the front and side of the property.
"The proposed external alterations are relatively minimal and involve alterations to the door and window openings and rendering of the building. To the west, an external staircase will be added to provide access to a plant room, this will be modest in scale and will not detract from the character of the property from the character of the building.
"The changes from brick to render raise no concerns given the prevalence of render and pebbledash in the immediate vicinity featured on neighbouring properties and buildings.
"A number of residential properties are located to the northwest and south of the site however the alterations proposed are minimal and no extensions are proposed. It is therefore considered that there will be no adverse impact upon overlooking, overshadowing or overbearing."
The county's Highways department raised no objections and the changes were deemed to cause no effect to flood risk in the area.
The council had previously granted planning permission for some of the work in April, permitting the conversion of existing ambulance garage space into internal accommodation, construction of an external staircase, installation of air source heat pumps and alterations to windows and doors; and work has been taking place at the ambulance station.
This latest application was approved on July 14.
