Lancaster food charity unveil new permanent base in Morecambe

A Lancaster food charity forced to leave their premises in the city centre earlier this year have found a new home in Morecambe.

Eggcup, a leading food redistribution organisation in Lancaster district, is inviting the public to the official opening of its new operational base near the Arndale Centre.

This relocation follows the recent partial wall collapse at the charity’s previous site on Chapel Street, Lancaster, forcing the charity to close their premises.

Back in March emergency crews were called to the area of Chapel Street and Wood Street, opposite the bus station.

Since the closure, the charity enlisted the help of places includng the Gregson Community Centre and St Chad’s Church, whohelped Eggcup to set up alternative 'pop up' food clubs in Lancaster.

Eggcup takes in food that would normally go to waste and distributes it to people in need.

The grand opening of the new premises on Euston Road takes place on Friday, September 4, from 1pm to 2pm. All members of the community are welcome to attend, meet the team, and learn more about Eggcup’s ongoing work.

“Our transition to the Euston Road base, which was generously supported by Peterson Logistics, has ensured that Eggcup can continue its vital mission across the district,’’ said Mike Webster, Chair of the charity.

‘’Our organisation remains dedicated to preventing surplus food from going to waste and providing essential logistical support to deliver food to those most in need within the community.’’

Rebecca Fox, Operational Manager at Eggcup, said: ‘’I am so pleased to be settled in at our new base on Euston Road.

“This move allows our team to get back to focusing on our core mission: preventing food going to waste and getting it out to the people who need it most.”

Eggcup’s impact remains significant, with the charity currently collecting and delivering surplus food to eight food clubs across the district on a weekly basis. This effort supports the distribution of over 1,700 food collections every month.

Skerton Community Centre manager Phil Tarny said: “Eggcup is an essential partner in our work that involves food. Without the support of Eggcup, we would struggle to provide the community with a low cost and diverse selection of food every week.”

Eggcup is a charity serving the Lancaster District by redistributing surplus food to reduce waste and combat food insecurity through a network of local food clubs.
