A second minor earthquake tremor in a matter of weeks has been felt around the Lancaster and Morecambe Bay area.

Residents reported feeling the effects of the 2.3 magnitude quake at 5.03am on Friday.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) said it had a depth of 3km and was centred in Silverdale, like the previous quake earlier this month.

Stacey, posting on the Carnforth Everything Facebook page, said she "felt the whole floor move".

Gillian said she felt it in Over Kellet but it was "not as strong as the one a couple of weeks ago".

No damage has been reported.

Today's tremor follows one on Wednesday December 3 at 11.23pm when residents across north Lancashire and South Cumbria — including in Morecambe and Lancaster — reported their homes shaking, loud bangs and what felt like an “explosion underground.”

It measured around magnitude 3.3–3.4 and occurred at a shallow depth of approximately 3km, according to the British Geological Survey (BGS).
