Set up begins in Lancaster’s Williamson Park ahead of Highest Point

Set up is underway in Williamson Park for the Highest point festival.

To allow the festival site to be built and taken down safely, from now until Thursday May 16, there will be a number of full or partial closures of the park.

The cafe, Butterfly House, gift shop and Ashton Memorial will close for the period that covers May 9 -14.

Fenham Carr will remain open for the duration of the festival but is only accessible via the kissing gate on Parkgate Drive.

Lancaster city council said every effort has been made to minimise disruption to park users.

Highest Point organiser, Rich Dyer, said “We’re eternally grateful to the people of Lancaster for lending us their park and we will always keep as much of the park open as we can.

“We’re really excited to be able to show people the finished festival site and we’re hugely thankful for all the support from our partners, Lancaster City Council, who make the event possible.

Will Griffith, Chief Officer (Environment and Place) at Lancaster City Council, added: “Highest Point has fast become one of the highlights of the year in the Lancaster district and we are incredibly grateful to be able to host it in our beautiful park.

“Although every effort has been made to minimise disruption to park users, for safety reasons some areas of the park will need to close whilst the event is constructed and is taken down.

‘’We will look to regularly update park users on our social media pages during this time.”
