A new festival is coming to Lancaster that will turn the clock back half a century.
September’s Rewind Festival is a new event for the city, that will reflect on how Lancaster changed over the last 50 years.
Staged by Lancaster BID, the event will be showcasing some of the longest standing businesses in the city, highlighting heritage, how buildings have changed, and remembering the music of 1972 from the likes of Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Donny Osmond and Paul McCartney’s Wings.
The event will also be teaming up with HPA Chartered Architects, who will be curating an exhibition of images of Lancaster from 1972 alongside photos which recapture the same view today.
The event will offer something for everyone and will highlight the city and how it has changed from 1972 to the present day.
An action-packed programme of nostalgia, film and music is planned, as Lancaster BID manager, Tony Johnson, explains: ‘’We’ll have music and entertainment in Market Square from the era, and celebrity look-a-likes walking round the city centre.
‘’We got funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and it’s enabled us to do more.
‘’We’ve commissioned a video where we’ll be interviewing people who worked in Lancaster back in the early 1970s.
‘’We’re also bringing a book out, featuring more than fifty businesses who have been in Lancaster since at least 1972. In doing our research, it’s amazing what you find out.
‘’People love nostalgia. So, there’ll also be an exhibition in the city museum. I’d encourage people who are fans of the era to come into Lancaster and enjoy the event. It’s a testament to the people and businesses of Lancaster that so many are still going strong. This is a key element of the project.
Lancaster Rewind Festival: 1972, will take place over the weekend of September 17th/18.
