A motorist and passengers were miraculously unhurt after a tree fell on their moving car in Lancaster during 90mph winds of Storm Eowyn.

A video captured the moment the tree collapsed on the vehicle - and a nearby parked car - on Torrisholme Road, close to Ryelands Park, on Friday morning.

An eye-witness who was on the scene to help, said the driver and two children who were passengers were not injured.

Lancashire Police, who closed the road for several hours afterwards, said there had been no serious wind-related injuries in the county on Friday despite several fallen trees and tiles being blown off roofs in the high winds.

A Lancaster City Council spokesperson said on Friday: "It has been a very busy day for our frontline teams who have been dealing with the clean-up following Storm Eowyn including dealing with fallen trees and building control issues.

"Wind gusts have been in the range of 85-90 mph but we now seem to be over the worst, with winds expected to ease from about midnight.

"Sunday will see some wet and windy weather but not of the same scale that we have seen today.

"Some road closures remain in place, notably on Willow Lane/Westbourne Road so please continue to take care."
