Carnforth Town Council has issued a warning after receiving reports of a potentially fraudulent wedding fayre.
They said they had become aware of advertisements and social media posts promoting an event purportedly taking place at Crag Bank Village Hall at the end of November.
They wished to make it clear that no such event has been booked, authorised or approved by Carnforth Town Council.
A spokesperson said: ‘’The Council has received information suggesting that individuals may have been invited to make payments of £60 to participate in the event. Residents, businesses, exhibitors and members of the public are therefore urged to exercise caution.
‘’Carnforth Town Council has formally reported this matter to both Lancashire Constabulary and Action Fraud due to concerns that members of the public could be exposed to potential fraud.
‘’Residents and prospective exhibitors are strongly advised to not make any payments in relation to this event, and not provide personal or financial information to anyone claiming to be organising this event.
‘’Residents should exercise caution when responding to online advertisements or social media posts relating to the alleged wedding fayre, and contact the relevant authorities if they have made a payment or have information that may assist enquiries.’’
