Bells will ring out across the Lancaster and Morecambe district this weekend to mark the coronation of King Charles III.
On the day of the coronation, on Saturday, there will be ringing for a wedding at lunchtime at The Priory in Lancaster.
There are what’s known as ‘quarter peals’, which will be around fifty minutes of continuous ringing, organised at Dent, Barbon, Kendal, Low Bentham, Burton in Kendal, Silverdale and the Lancaster Priory on Sunday afternoon, as well as two additional full peals at Morecambe Parish church and the Priory.
The full peal at Morecambe Parish Church will take place on Saturday lunchtime and last for around three hours, and will be the first there in 40 years.
The full peal at Lancaster Priory will take around three and a half hours on all ten of the venue’s bells, and start late morning on Bank Holiday Monday.
Cate Gardner is the Tower Captain for Lancaster Priory, and said: ‘’With the coronation less than a week away I thought I’d share and explain some of the bell ringing that will be taking place around the Lancaster area.
‘’I will be ringing at the Priory and other towers over the weekend.
‘’It is lovely to celebrate such a momentous event in this way.
‘’If anyone would like to learn to ring please do contact us, as we are recruiting for both the Priory and Morecambe at the moment.’’
