A Green has been elected as a new councillor in Lancaster following a by-election.
William Farley won in Castle ward on Thursday.
The Lancaster City Council by-election was called following the resignation of Green councillor Isabella Metcalf-Riener, who was elected two years ago, but is now moving away from the area for work.
The full result of the by-election was as follows:
William David Evans (Labour Party) 190
William Farley (Green Party) 845 ELECTED
Malcolm Allan Martin (Liberal Democrats) 41
Marco Wright (Reform) 132
Castle ward’s two other councillors – Dave Brookes and Paul Stubbins - are also Greens.
Lancaster City Council is led by a shared administration between Green, Liberal Democrat and the Morecambe Bay Independents. There are 23 Green councillors, 20 Labour, seven Lib Dems, five Conservatives, three MBIs and three independents.
