Animal welfare officers are appealing for witnesses after a four-year-old chihuahua suffered serious injuries following an attack by another dog in Lancaster.
The chihuahua was being walked along the cycle track, next to the River Lune behind the children's play park off Mainway, Skerton, at 09:45am on Wednesday when the attack happened, said a Lancaster City Council spokesperson.
A black bull breed type dog was off a lead with its owner - a male wearing a dark hoody and joggers. He was approximately 5ft 7.
The man fled the scene with the dog following the attack.
The chihuahua was rushed to a vet for emergency treatment for the injuries, which include a prolapsed eye.
