The Morecambe MP has pledged his ‘full support’ to Liz Truss following her victory in the Conservative Party leadership contest.
Ms Truss defeated former Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, in the run off and will be confirmed officially as the UK’s next Prime Minister tomorrow (Tuesday).
Morecambe and Lunesdale MP, David Morris, has congratulated the new leader on her victory.
Taking to social media, Mr Morris said: ‘’Congratulations Liz Truss MP.
‘’I look forward to working with you to unite our party, deliver Government business and deliver the Eden Project in Morecambe.
‘’You have my full support.’’
Earlier today, the foreign secretary won the contest to become the next Tory party leader - and therefore prime minister - in a ballot of Conservative members.
Ms Truss, who was the favourite to win, will succeed Boris Johnson on Tuesday and become the nation's third female leader.
The foreign secretary used her victory speech to indicate she would not trigger an early general election, instead pledging to secure "a great victory for the Conservative Party in 2024".
Ms Truss said it is an "honour to be elected" as she thanked her party for organising "one of the longest job interviews in history".
