An actor from Morecambe is set to return to popular TV soap Coronation Street after three years away from the famous cobbles.
Cherylee Houston MBE has begun to film scenes for her comeback to the ITV1 serial drama and will reappear on screen very soon after spending an extended period of time shielding after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cherylee, a former pupil of Morecambe High School (now Morecambe Bay Academy), plays Izzy Armstrong in the soap.
The actor, who took on the role of Izzy in 2010, last appeared on the street in 2020, before lockdown restrictions were put into place.
Since then, Cherylee made an appearance via Zoom in 2021, in a storyline which showed difficulties faced by disabled people during the pandemic.
Last year the 48-year-old, who was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos, a rare connective tissue disorder, when she was 23, received an MBE for her services to drama and people with disabilities.
She has played the role of factory worker Izzy since 2010 and was the first regular Corrie character to use a wheelchair.
